Contract Type

I am a 15yr old girl seeking a Personal Health Care Assistant(s) to join my existing team of PHCAs at home. I have Cerebral Palsy, Dystonia, Epilepsy and I also have a tracheostomy, but I do not let my health needs define me and I enjoy living my life to the fullest, I just need extra help to achieve this. My health needs mean that I need 24/7 support to help me with all my care needs, to ensure that I am safe, mobile, and comfortable. This includes overnight support.

I live at home with my Mum, Dad, 2 sisters and a small pet dog. I’m a very sociable person and known as a bit of thrill seeker, I’m certainly not as fragile as some people may assume. I’m generally always looking for the next new experience and I like to be busy with activities and events, but I also love to chill just as much as the next person. I love art, music, cooking, shopping and socialising. I love the outdoors, watching movies and I’m a huge Disney fan!   Hours & Pay RateFull time and Part time positions are available. I am looking for support with multiple shifts/hours on a weekly basis, some of which will be double-up shifts to provide 2-1 care with other PHCAs. Given the amount of hours available we are looking for a minimum of 2 PHCAs.

Shifts to cover include: 11hr night shifts – usually 22:00pm-9:00am (please note these are waking shifts) 5 x 4hr afternoon shifts 16:00pm-20:00pm (weekdays only) 5 x 3hr early morning shifts 6:00am-9:00am (weekdays only) 1 x 8hr shift 10:00-18:00 every Saturday. Longer days are also available, these would be; 10:00am-18:00pm or 9:00am – 20:00pm.

Initially every Wednesday but during the school holidays there will be a considerable increase of hours available. The hours in the school holidays could either be covered as long days or morning/afternoon shifts shared between my team of PHCAs. We also require bank cover for holidays and sickness. Standard rate of pay will be £16ph – once fully trained. Hours of work, probationary period and any training will be discussed in detail at the point of interview. *Can you please state clearly in your application the hours you are available to work and if you are happy to work both days and nights.   Main Duties The duties are best captured by describing a day in the life for me, which means my PHCAs will be responsible for supporting me with all moving and handling and personal cares including bathing. You will need to administer my medications via a feeding tube and keep records of this by means of a drug chart. This will also include any rescue medications I may need in the event I have a seizure. You will need to support me with all social activities and that can be either at home, out in the community or on holiday. (Accompanying me on holiday is at your choice.) I also need support through the night whilst I’m sleeping. Other duties include stock check of supplies and medications that you may need to order and/or collect for me. Aswell as often accompanying me to hospital appointments. My needs will vary day to day and your tasks will reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required. You will be required to undertake any relevant training that is considered necessary and appropriate to your role.   Person Specification Female carer required (Sex discrimination act section 7 (2) (B) (ii) applies) Age Restriction 18+ applies due to administering medication, shifts before 6am and after 10pm, and potential to work more than 48hrs/week. DBS check will be required (Cost covered) Car Driver/Owner is essential. Potential to drive my wheelchair vehicle, but not essential. Non-smoker required/Non-smoking household Mandatory training will be required and provided The PHCA I’m seeking must be caring, compassionate, patient and a friendly person who likes to laugh. You must be a non-smoker due to my medical condition. Experience of working with a young person with complex care is an advantage but not essential as all training will be provided. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have a positive attitude, and a genuine passion for providing high quality care to support me living as independently as possible, at home with my family.   “Please note that this advert has been placed on behalf of one of our customers.  Should your application be successful, and you are offered the position, you will be directly employed by the customer and not by PeoplePlus”
