About Policy Connect

This is an exciting time at Policy Connect. With a new CEO at the helm, we have a vision that brings academics, business, industry and the third sector together with policymakers to help inform their decisions with real-world examples and expertise. Through this vision, we want our excellent events and policy reports to raise our profile and compete with the best think tanks in the country. We are now recruiting two Deputy Directors who can help build lead our policy teams to achieve our aims. This is a great chance for someone to help shape the team with new ideas.

We are a cross-party, cross-sector, not-for-profit social enterprise. Our research teams focus on five key policy areas:

  • Manufacturing and Energy
  • Environment
  • Assistive Technology
  • Higher Education
  • Health

We convene Commission-led inquiries which result in policy reports, briefings and newsletters. We also organise networking and ad hoc policy events.

 

About the role

The Deputy Director reports to the Director of Policy and Programmes and will lead and oversee the research function for Manufacturing and Energy at Policy Connect. This is a senior and pivotal position that is central to our operations. You will play a key role in Policy Connect’s strategic mission, directing the research agenda of manufacturing and energy sectors and managing the policy team.

It is also a networking role. You will be responsible for a very high level of engagement with our stakeholders – senior business leaders, politicians, civil servants and academics, for example. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys horizon scanning and identifying opportunities to bring more organisations into membership and develop our programme of work. Professional expertise in the sector as well as strong managerial and interpersonal skills will be essential.

 

About you

Essential skills are:

  1. In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and energy policy.
  2. Ability to co-ordinate research programmes.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrable ability to engage with senior business leaders and politicians.
  4. Ability to identify future new business opportunities to broaden Policy Connect’s membership base.
  5. Management and budgeting experience.
  6. Excellent written skills and the ability to write clear prose. 
  7. Media and public speaking experience.
  8. An entrepreneurial approach and the ability to identify opportunities.
  9. A good and positive team player.
