About me:

I am a man in my mid 30’s with a learning disability, I’m non-verbal but can be very vocal at times. I enjoy going out for walks, watching tv, sensory lights and most of all good food! I require support with all aspects of my day, and to run my household including all cleaning and cooking.

Hours and Pay Rate:

£10 per hour

£70 Sleep in rate (10.30-pm-07.30 am)

There are a range of shift patterns with up to 30 hours and 3 sleep ins available, with additional shifts to cover sickness and annual leave .

Minimum shift length is 5 hours, shift patterns will cover days and weekends

Enhanced DBS check will be required

Main Duties

Support with all aspects of daily living, including showering, personal care, dressing, eating, and managing my medication. Helping me to do the things I enjoy, which can range from long walks and swimming to sitting with me to watch 24 hours in A&E! I am a wheelchair user, so you will need to be comfortable using a hoist and pushing a wheelchair when we are out and about.   Along with this I need all household duties completed for me, this includes daily cooking, laundry, and household cleaning.

Person Specification

You should have a genuine passion for providing great care and supporting people with a learning disability. I’m looking for someone who is proactive and motivated, you will be working alone and so have to be good at using your own initiative. You must be comfortable liaising with my family, as they are very involved, provide support for me and manage my support team.  My communication can be quite subtle, so to understand me you must be patient and attentive.

You should have experience within the care sector, whether this be personal or professional. However, applications from similar roles such as Teaching Assistants in SEN schools will also be considered.

Use of a car is not essential for this role

Non negotiables

No smoking or vaping during shift, and employees are required to not smell of smoke due to the nature of the work. It is also required that you have received all covid vaccinations and engage in a covid responsible manner.

Enhanced DBS although this can be arranged, as well as medication and moving and handling training.
