About Employer

Employer has mid-stage Alzhiemer's, is severely sight impaired (but actually can still see quite a bit) and very hard of hearing so is dependent on hearing aids, she is still continent. She lives in a small pleasant flat in central Hove and is looked after by her family and one carer who has been with us for 2 years.

She now requires 24 hour care so we are looking for someone to join the team as soon as possible.

Work Duties will include:

• Help her get to and from the bathroom during the night, she usually goes once or twice.
• Assisting with personal care if she can’t manage herself.
• Helping her get back into bed
• General kindness and reassurance as she has dementia and is vulnerable.
• If she wakes early to partially dress her, put in her hearing aids give her a hot drink
• She is severely sight impaired and very hard of hearing without her hearing aids so during the night ensuring she understands you.
• At all times being very kind and gentle with her.

Day-time duties:

• Dressing her

• Personal care and showering
• Preparing simple healthy meals
• Administering medication
• Most importantly being a companion to her, keeping her entertained/occupied and happy
• Taking her out in her wheelchair
• Assist in keeping her small flat clean, neat and tidy.
• Keeping notes up to date of her care and any incidents, communicating these to the rest of the caring team.

 Night-time duties:

• To assist and reassure her at night-time when she goes to the bathroom, currently once or twice, personal care if she needs it, and then to help her back into bed.

• Also to assist her in the morning if she wakes earlier than her usual time of 11am, she is now sleeping a bit beyond this time.

Requirements

• We’re looking for someone with proven experience of dementia who is kind and gentle

• Must be mature, patient and compassionate with a sense of humour

• Reliable, committed and thorough
• Must provide at least 2 good references

Self-employed, must provide UTR (self-employed unique tax reference issued by HMRC)

• Must be female due to personal care aspect
• Speak good clear fluent English

Hours and rate of pay

• £100 per night-time shift..     £12-£14   daytime

  Night-time shift 10.30pm – 11am

  Daytime shift 11am – 10.30pm

  help to cover holiday time would be an advantage
