Personal Assistant/Key Worker Required

Location: Birches Head, Stoke-on-Trent

Day/Times:  To be mutually agreed between employer & employee.

Hours:  As & when required 3 hours per week

Rate of pay:  £8.91 per hour (pay rate will be discussed and negotiated at interview. The rate will be dependent upon experience. Mileage payment to be discussed prior to each trip and payable on the day of activity)

Purpose of the Job

To support a 10-year-old who is Autistic with accessing social activities.

The goal is to help & support the family & the young person 1:1 in becoming confident in accessing activities safely inside & outside of the home environment to give parents a short break.

Experience of supporting people with Autism, challenging & aggressive behaviours, & complex needs, is preferred for this role. The Key Worker/PA will always need to be vigilant & provide constant supervision at 1:1 so a safe and supported environment is always present. There always needs to be consistency and structure in the support for this young person.

Personal Assistant Specification

Experience of supporting young people & children with Autism & challenging/aggressive behaviours.

The family would like to employ a PA who is confidently able to facilitate the chosen activities.

The PA will need to be vigilant always & provide constant supervision as the young man is considered a flight risk & has no sense or awareness of danger.

Experience & understanding of complex needs & how this will impact on family dynamics.

Experience of working with non-verbal communication techniques such as MAKATON or Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).

Management of Actual or Potential Aggression training would be beneficial.

Non-Abusive Psychological & Physical Interventions training would be beneficial.

You must be able to demonstrate an ability to re-direct challenging & disruptive behaviour to a more positive outcome.

Experience of positive play is essential.

The PA must have a good sense of humour, be patient & calm, & of an outgoing disposition.

You must be honest, trustworthy, reliable, always respect the family’s privacy, & be able to work without supervision.

A car driver with a clean driving licence is preferred.

You must be enthusiastic & flexible, & with a caring disposition.

You must be patient, consistent, & structured in your approach.

Supervision

You will be employed by a family member & will be accountable to them in all aspects of your work.  You will need to follow directions & requests & have a confident approach to your role.

Main Duties

To support with accessing appropriate leisure & social activities, inside or outside the home.

To provide a safe and supported environment always at 1:1 whilst providing the support.

The post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure & a children’s safeguarding awareness course which will be funded through your employer.
