Purpose of Job
We are looking for a Personal Assistant to work alongside our family caring for our 13-year-old son who has cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy.
We have three children, a baby on the way, 2 dogs & a cat. As you can imagine we have a very busy life and our home is never quiet!
The Personal Assistant will provide care and support to our oldest son, he is a happy content little boy who is fully dependent on others for all of his personal care.
Our son has very high complex needs therefore requires 24-hour care.
Day shifts would always be 2:1 so you would therefore be working alongside another PA.
Day shifts would be doing all our sons personal care needs, administering medicines via Gastrostomy peg, setting up feeds via a pump, doing physiotherapy, putting our son in his standing frame, doing sensory work, taking him in hydrotherapy so you must be comfortable going into a pool and going out for social outings. On rare occasions there may be times when you are asked to help with the other children if needed.
You will shadow an experienced member of our team until you are fully confident in all areas of your role.
You will need to be flexible with your working hours.
There will be regular reviews of your work at staff meetings which we have every 8 weeks to see how things are going and to make sure everyone is happy and has no concerns.
Due to COVID-19 we need to make sure we take all possible precautions to protect our son as we live with it going forward, therefore as part of the role you will be asked to take a lateral flow test at the start of each shift as well as taking a PCR test once per week. You will be advised on how to take these as part of your induction.
Although experience would be preferred it is not essential as you can be trained before and on the job. It is more important that you are confident and are willing to learn.
Full training and support will be provided.
