Multi Skilled Engineering Technician

The Multi Skilled Engineering Technician will maintain the day-to-day operations and assume responsibility for all engineering aspects including planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance, capital and HSE projects and plant and property general maintenance work. This may include producing works specifications along with obtaining quotations from suppliers and then supervising those works possibly under the CDM regulations. You will be responsible for implementing budgetary controls and purchasing of necessary machine parts and equipment for the growth of the business and will work to effectively minimise downtime of machinery to maximise output.

Normal working hours will be Monday to Friday on the day shift, however, occasional out of hours or weekend working may be required.


Multi Skilled Engineering Technician - Key Responsibilities:       

  • Ensure that all maintenance work is carried out with due regard for the safety of employees, adhering to relevant regulations
  • Fault-finding diagnostics, electrical and mechanical on process lines
  • To drive efficiency improvements by reducing downtime
  • Improve product change over procedures using SMED procedures
  • Stock control and monitoring of machine parts and purchasing
  • Control of contractors on site, along with control of expenditure for these, including scrutiny of all Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS) and Insurance documentation in line with CDM Regulations
  • Compiling of all documentation appertaining to contractor management and works performed
  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager monitor and control the fabric of the building and assess for repairs and modifications as required
  • Conduct inspections of working at height equipment and compile data register
  • Ensure all legal maintenance and testing of equipment takes place within the realms of the job remit
  • Development of Safe Systems of Work and pictorial Safe Operating Procedures for all machinery
  • Help maintain all maintenance records, ensuring all documentation is in place and up to date
  • To look for opportunities for continuous improvement on machinery and other areas of the business
  • Training of operators on safe use of machinery
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation and product development


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Fully qualified, time-served engineer, multi-skilled: electrical and mechanical
  • PLC experience not essential but would be an advantage
  • Engineering, plant and machinery maintenance Best Practice aware
  • Self-motivated with a professional approach to work
  • Able to work independently but must be able to work as part of a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate; basic Microsoft packages for budget control, breakdown monitoring, communication   and process reporting
  • Used to organising and dealing with contractors
  • Logical and methodical approach to work with high regard to safety
  • Must be able to work under pressure in a calm and positive manner
  • Ability to understand the needs of the business and be able to maintain a direct impact on performance improvements
  • Self-confident with a can-do attitude and honesty and integrity values
  • A flexible and forward thinking approach to deliver the best outcome for the business
