About the role

We are looking to recruit a hands-on individual with strong leadership skills to join our operations team. Responsible for overseeing and controlling all transport and warehouse operations, to ensure the operation in its entirety is run efficiently safely, compliant and cost effectively.

The successful candidate will manage, organise and drive forward a team of transport and warehouse operatives and planners as well as provide innovative ways to develop procedures to improve service levels and profitability.

In addition, and in conjunction with the Compliance Manager, the role will include ensuring complete compliance across all company activities including health and safety, Transport and Warehouse Regulations.

The role requires both a customer and commercially focused individual who is not afraid to challenge current processes and has excellent communications skills at all levels to build strong relationships across the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Operations Director you will provide day to day management for all aspects of people management, safety, service and cost.
  • Show leadership and commercial awareness in this fast-moving environment.
  • Provide direction and monitor performance to ensure operations run effectively and efficiently, delivering a quality service to customers every time.
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of safety and ensure staff training requirements are met to deliver an employee culture of safety.
  • Ensure daily/weekly targets and KPI’s are met through effective planning of vehicles.
  • Ensure full compliance to the company’s Operators Licence.
  • Ensure full compliance with all legislation and company policies.
  • Assist in recruiting and training drivers, transport and warehouse staff.
  • Develop and engage a team culture.

Experience and qualifications

  • Demonstrate experience at management level with full knowledge of all transport legislation.
  • Knowledge of planning and driver management packages.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate at all levels with both customers and within the company.
  • Hold a National/International Transport Manager CPC
