Job Purpose and work duties
To assist the employer by providing support to enable her to live as independently as
possible in a clean, warm home, help her access the necessary support or medical
support. Personal Assistants may be asked to cover other shifts or do longer shifts due to sickness, holidays, appointments so need to be flexible but employer appreciates it may not always be possible unless sufficient notice is given. The employer has numerous disabilities – deaf and mobility problems. The employer should offer support and be polite and respectful to the employee.
Work Duties will include:
Hoovering throughout the flat
Dusting and polishing
Cleaning brass items
Cleaning kitchen including wiping out microwave, fridge, cupboard.
Washing floors in kitchen and bathroom
Personal Assistants maybe asked to undertake indoor and outdoor tasks such as the following: -
Ensuring timesheets are completed, signed, and sent.
Take out for occasional trips to shops or garden centres, occasionally with daughter who has learning difficulties.
Personal care – assisting with cutting fingernails.
Assist by making phone calls on behalf of employer.
Assist me if I have fallen over to get up by calling for emergency help.
Assisting with laundry and drying
If required, undertake other indoor tasks undertaken by other Pa’s when covering annual leave or sickness.
Shopping with me or without me
Appointments – Arranging and taking to GP, dentist, optician, chiropodist or hospital, hairdresser.
Undertaking activities for employer
Online food ordering
Point of contact for arranging appointments.
Help keep cupboards clean and tidy, binning out of date food.
Reviewing post and responding where required, paperwork filed.
Review household utility bills and support in changing supplier when contracts end
Order and chase medication ordering
Act as a liaison between her son, housing manager, occupational therapy, adult social care
Must be able to place online orders, mainly for food orders.
Prepared to use whatsapp for communication, during working hours. As phone calls can be difficult due to hearing disability.
Able to drive and carry me to appointments or short trips out.
Hours and rate of pay
7 hours @ £9.85
Requirements for applicant
Have a DBS or be prepared to have one
Be honest and trustworthy
Be reliable, understanding and patient
Have good time keeping
Be fit and healthy
Be respectful, respect privacy and confidentiality
Be cheerful and positive
Be able to work as part of a team
Be willing to cover other PA’s leave
Ideally be able to drive but not essential
Understand how deafness can cause communication difficulties and how to deal with the effects
Able to support a mature adult with learning difficulties.
