Job Description – Live-in, self employed carer

About Myself / Us

Elderly couple living in a rural area near Meifod; 83-yr old lady who has dementia and her 90 yr old husband.  Dad was main carer for Mum until recently; he has chronic leukemia so is becoming more frail and unable to care / tend to her anymore.  She is fairly happy and content, but sometimes gets anxious and asks about going home.  Distraction techniques are good to help with this; chatting about other things or helping to do her other hobbies. Mum used to be an occupational therapist, and she often talks of her childhood in Liverpool.  She used to paint watercolours and now gets a lot of enjoyment from painting simple pre-drawn pictures.  They also enjoy jigsaw puzzles which occupies Mum well.  She is quite deaf but has hearing aids, occasionally we have to write things down for her.   Short trips out are also a good option to distract her.   She has got to the stage where she needs help / prompts to wash and when getting dressed.  She likes her privacy and independence, but with time and a good rapport, will accept help.

Dad likes to fix cars, so there is often a project on the go.  He is fairly independent and only needs occasional additional support himself.
