This is a great opportunity to join a well-established and experienced team supporting a happy and sweet 10-year-old with bags of personality. H’s team provide round the clock support. One of them will be going on maternity leave soon, so we are looking to recruit a committed and reliable carer to provide cover for her. There will also be the opportunity to work extra shifts during the school holidays and to have some permanent shifts when the maternity cover ends. You will receive training in two shadow shifts.
ABOUT THE 10-YEAR-OLD BOY
H has cerebral palsy, learning difficulties and is non-verbal, so he requires support with his communication and to meet all of his needs. He is a charming and engaging child who enjoys interacting with his carers, listening to music and songs, and getting involved in sensory activities.
H is also a wheelchair user so relies on others for his mobility and his personal care. He has a feeding tube in situ through which he receives his medication and approximately half his nutrition. The other half is given to him in the form of pureed food, which he enjoys.
WAKING NIGHT CARER DUTIES
Throughout your night shift you will observe H, tending to all his needs as required. General duties include repositioning him, monitoring his night feed (delivered via a pump), administering medication, looking after his personal care, following his care plan and ironing his clothes.
As a waking night carer (maternity cover), you will work every week:
Thursday: 10.00pm – 8.00am
Friday: 10.00pm – 8.00am
Saturday: 10.00pm – 8.00am
Every other Sunday is also available from 10.00pm – 8.00am, if you would like more hours.
EXTRA DAYTIME SHIFTS
If you choose to do additional shifts during the daytime, they will include implementing H’s therapy guidelines, feeding and interacting with him, attending to his personal care needs and supporting him to enjoy interactive play and leisure activities including walks and some trips out in the community. Full training will be provided.
School holiday shifts: 8.00am – 3.30pm or 3:00pm-10:00pm
Term time shifts: 3.30pm – 10.00pm.
H’s family are looking for someone they can rely on to cover the duration of the maternity leave. This position will suit someone who is able to commit to the hours specified. Overtime (over and above the hours stated) will be paid at the hourly rate (either £14 or £16 per hour).
