Job Title: Personal Assistant (referred to as PA in job description) in the terms of a Key worker/Carer in the care sector
Location: Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent
Day/Times: 4 hours per week
Hours: 4 hours contracted/or as and when required per week. Daily times to be discussed and finalised with your employer.
Rate of pay: £8.72 per hour weekdays/weekends/bank holidays
Purpose of the Job
The role will be to support and provide support and encouragement for a young person with Downs Syndrome to access social and leisure activities of his choice. The young person is incontinent and non-verbal and has a special diet. The young person can present challenging behaviors and can become agitated in busy environments/public places if exposed to them for extended periods of time. These different abilities can mean he can be extremely vulnerable so the PA/Key Worker must provide a safe and supported environment always. You may be required to assist with personal care on occasion.
Personal Assistant Specification
The personal assistant must be honest, trustworthy, and reliable, must always respect privacy and maintain the cared for persons dignity.
The assistant must be enthusiastic and flexible with a patient and caring disposition. They must be able to work well independently.
It’s preferred that the PA comes to the role with knowledge and relevant experience of working with people with Downs Syndrome, and the health conditions previously mentioned, and ideally has some experience in the care sector on either a professional or personal level.
Experience of working with young people or adults who are non-verbal.
Experience of working with young people and adults who have a special dietary requirement.
A willingness to support with personal care tasks when required.
A friendly disposition and a positive outlook on life with a confident approach to all aspects of the role.
The personal assistant must be as flexible as possible with regards to meeting the requests for personal care and social support for the 4 hours required. These times will be mutually agreed between both parties wherever possible. The time and days may change around the needs and the busy life of the employer.
A clean driving license is an advantage but not essential, as is the use of a car.
The personal assistant is accountable to the employer in all aspects of their work. They should always ask what the needs are and listen to any directions and requests.

The post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and a children’s safeguarding awareness course which will be funded through your employer.
