Purpose of Job

We are looking for a Personal Assistant to work alongside our family caring for our 11-year-old son who has cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy.

We have three children and two dogs within our home. We have a very busy life and our home is never quiet!

The Personal Assistant will provide care and support to our oldest son, he is a happy content little boy who is fully dependant on others for all of his personal care.

Our son has very high complex needs therefore requires 24-hour care.

We are looking for a PA to cover nightshifts which means your role would entail giving medicine via a gastronomy peg, assisting with all aspects of personal care, putting him to bed, managing his airway with a CPAP machine, changing his position while in bed, recording saturation levels, monitoring seizures and spasms, 12 hour monitoring and recording in a diary how he has been during the night.

You need to make sure you are awake during the whole of the nightshift as our son needs to be monitored and changed positions throughout the night. Experience of working waking nights would be an advantage.

You would also be required to get him ready for school. You may be asked to work day shifts at certain points.

You must have the following qualifications to apply for this position –

  • NVQ Level 3 working with children and young people OR Level 3 in supporting teaching and learning.
  • Must have experience in airway management, administering nutrition via a peg and seizure management.
  • Preferred experience doing waking nights
  • Nursing experience is an advantage but not essential.
  • Have a clean driving license and be comfortable driving a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

The hourly rate for daytime shifts is different, this will be discussed at interview.

If you cover daytime hours the role will be different and you will be expected to assist our son on social outings with another member of staff.

Full training and support will be provided.
