Job Title:    Female Personal Assistants  - Waking Nights          

Hours: Various hours available – Position will be for waking night shifts (9pm – 9am) and annual leave/sickness cover

Rates of Pay:  £12.00 per hour at all times                    

Work Area /Location:  Clients home address in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, WD6 and surrounding community.

Responsible to:  Directly to the employer

About the Job:

Honest and trustworthy Personal Assistants required to form part of a small team to provide 24/7 care and support to a lady in her 80’s. The client is frail and immobile and uses a standing frame for transfers – previous moving and handling experience would be beneficial within this role. Your role will involve supporting client’s family member to deliver high quality, holistic, person-centred care.

Main Tasks:


  • Assistance in and out of bed
  • Use of Re-Turn/Sara Steady to transfer (training will be provided)
  • Assistance getting dressed and undressed
  • Providing assistance in the toilet/commode
  • Assistance with washing and showering
  • Checking skin condition and applying or changing dressings etc
  • Performing passive exercise to limbs
  • Assisting with daily exercises
  • General grooming and personal appearances
  • Assistance with eating food
  • Preparing and administering medicines 


  • Preparing food and drinks
  • House cleaning and helping to keep house hazard-free, washing up, cleaning and tidying work surfaces, appliances, etc
  • Laundry, bed making, changing bed linen
  • Keeping medicines, surgical appliances, incontinence products, creams, ointments etc in an orderly, hygienic and secure manner. Preparing these for use
  • Collecting allowances, prescriptions etc
  • Exercising and feeding pets
  • Caring for house plants
  • Assistance with superficial garden tasks
  • Support with clerical work


  • Assistance with getting to and from and in and out of transport
  • Providing company and support outside the home e.g. with pushing wheelchair, using toilets, negotiating difficult places with steps etc
  • Load and unload wheelchairs and associated equipment into and out of transport
  • Accompanying me to social events, meetings, appointments and on shopping expeditions
  • Generally helping to make trips outside the home go smoothly
  • Assisting me to entertain in my own home as required
  • Involving me in any aspects of activity, e.g. food preparation, laundry, tending to plants, simple gardening tasks


  • Put rubbish out for collection
  • Ensure that Recycling of household waste is adhered to in accordance with local authority requirements.
  • Take and write telephone messages with callers telephone number if I am absent
  • Enable me to carry out my chosen activity whether inside or outside the home by carrying out any other request that I may reasonably make
  • Always show respect to both myself and my family members, and deliver care in accordance with the request of main carer.
  • Respect wishes to be cared for at home until end of life, according to personal wishes in Advance Care Plan

Person Specification:

  • Be punctual, reliable and flexible
  • Be understanding, kind and compassionate
  • Must be dog friendly
  • Non smoking preferred
  • Must be reliable, honest and trustworthy
  • Must have an understanding of ‘holistic’ care, respecting physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.
  • Must be willing to work in accordance with care plan as requested by main carer
  • Establish a professional standard of care, which should be maintained at all times
  • Be prepared to undertake any training that may be required to meet the needs of the role
  • Ensure that due consideration is given to health and safety at all times
  • Respect and safeguard the goods and property of the employer
  • Respect privacy and uphold confidentiality at all times

Special Conditions:

A Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) and two satisfactory references are conditional for the post. This is a free and confidential process.
