We have an exciting opportunity to work as a high-level teaching assistant/support worker providing support to an 11-year-old boy, at school during term time.
Our client is a delightful boy who sustained brain damage following a traumatic birth. He has dyskinetic cerebral palsy, affecting all four limbs with his right-hand side being worse than his left. He also experiences spasms during times of anxiety, excitement or distress. He can present some challenging behaviours due to his frustration.
The chosen candidate will require to provide one-to-one support to our client, encouraging him to participate in as many curriculum activities and tasks as possible. He uses a computer for his school work, so it is essential that candidates have suitable IT skills and are able to assist him when necessary.
He also requires assistance with his toileting needs as well as dressing and undressing for PE lessons. He will need encouragement to comply with his physiotherapy programme and help in practising any techniques that the Neuro Psychologist has implemented for his challenging behaviour.
The successful candidate will be expected to assist with his organisational skills and ensure the client gets to and from lessons safely. You will be expected to liaise with support workers, school staff and family alike as part of the multidisciplinary team involved in our client’s care.
