Print Operations Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Print Operations Manager to join our Production and Design teams.  Working together on artwork and pre press services in accordance with Company requirements, you will be performing accurate file management, digital artwork preparation and generation/manipulation.  Knowledge of Automation Engine and the ability to organise existing workflows will also be a distinct benefit.  Effective liaison across the business is key and therefore strong communication skills, both written and verbal are fundamental to this role to ensure effective delivery at all levels.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be able to demonstrate considerable experience in the graphics industry. Large Format Print is preferred although we could consider small print, POS or similar.
  • Understand the way artwork is made so that problems can be addressed early in the job process.
  • Have some knowledge and experience in rip software, Colorgate an advantage
  • Must be able to work with various graphic design and layout software applications commonly used on Mac's and PC's
  • Good understanding of digital file formats (pdf, tiff, eps) from different operating systems (Mac and PC)
  • Strong colour management skills and the ability to work with different digital formats
  • Previous experience of working in Pre Press
  • Previous experience of Graphic Design / Creative an advantage
  • Digital Cutter understanding a must, Kongsberg an advantage
  • Excellent understanding of Illustrator, Photoshop & Acrobat


For candidates with Automation Engine 18 experience, the areas we will be looking to be managed are detailed below:

  • Help streamline and automate graphic / print processes using Esko Automation Engine 18 in a digital print environment, scripting, and other prepress tools.
  • Work with other departments including Creative, IT, Sales, Webshop and the Print Manager, to ensure new and existing improvement projects are planned and executed in an efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of XML/JDF, Java Script, Pitstop Pro, Smartnames, Smartmarks, versioning and using Gang run.
  • Experience with iCut Layout, iCut Preflight and GMG Colourserver.
  • Maintain and modify existing workflows in use to ensure new products are supported with minimal impact to production.
  • Interface with suppliers and other Prepress and/or Technology leaders to ensure all systems are receiving updates as required. Responsible for planning and budgeting these updates with minimal impact on production.
  • Monitor systems and interface with IT department to ensure uptime goals are being met.
  • Help to digitally integrate Prepress with other operations system such as MIS/ERP programs in the future.
  • Recommend and participate in continuous improvement projects as appropriate and continually lead efforts to increase workflow efficiencies.
  • Continually increase skills in prepress systems and business software platforms (HP Print OS or other)
  • Enthusiastically embrace going to ESKO or other enrichment conferences or training.
  • Training and education of team with new software, hardware, and workflow.
  • Leadership on new product discovery, assessment, and implementation.
  • Handling and managing new assignments readily.
  • Establish systems that create manufacturing consistency and reliability at a high level of quality.
