SOMETHING ABOUT ME

I am a 16-year-old girl living in Builth Wells area. I live with my mum every other day and dad and older sister the other times, hours advertised are for when I’m with Mum. I have Cerebral Palsy, severe visual impairments and other health issues. Due to this I am unable to be left alone and I am totally dependent on others 24 hours a day. I require support to carry out all activities by two people. I have an electric wheelchair and a manual wheelchair for emergency use. I am an active listener and have very limited speech.

I am a social young lady with the same needs as teenagers my age. I enjoy most activities; however, these need to be planned in advance. I enjoy music.

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

My mum is looking to employ someone as a personal assistant to support me in my home. Care is carried out with two personal assistants at the same time. You will be required to support me when I go to various clubs/swimming in the school holidays, this helps my personal development, education and gives me independence away from family members.

 

PLACE OF WORK

You will be required to support me in my family home, you will also take me swimming and support me with activities during the school holidays. Please be aware that your place of work is a family home and it is important that you respect this, confidentiality is key. I would also appreciate it if you remember how old I am and speak to me appropriately.

 

 

HOURS OF WORK

Two week rota:

Week two: Weekday hours 6.30-8.30am 4.30-7pm

Mon 2hrs am Tue 2.5hrs pm Wed 2hrs am, Thur 2.5hrs pm Fri 2hrs am

Sat 8-2, 4.30-6.30

Total: 11 weekday 8 weekend

Week one: Weekday hours 6.30-8.30am 4.30-7pm

Mon 2.5hrs pm, Tue 2hrs am, Wed 2.5hrs pm, Thur 2hrs am Fri 2.5hrs pm

Sun 8-2, 4.30-6.30

Total: 11.5 weekday 8 weekend

 

 

Holidays:

Week One

2 day per week 8 hours per day (may be a split shift) Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday

Week Two

3 day per week 8 hours per day (may be a split shift) Saturday/Monday/Wednesday/Friday

 

RATE OF PAY

£9.75 per hour

I do have an adapted vehicle which mum can make available to carers.

 

TASKS AND DUTIES

 

  • Physio daily
  • Brace
  • Swimming
  • Standing frame twice daily with body brace on
  • Supporting all my needs- this may include tidying up after me/ ironing my clothes etc
  • Meeting all my needs
  • All help at feed times and clearing away after me
  • All personal care needs
  • Taking me out when required
  • Please be aware that my mum individually may wish to spend time with me on occasions that you are working and whilst she is doing this some of the tasks you will be asked to do may include tidying my room, doing my washing etc as my package is around my whole care not just personally with me

 

 

PERSON REQUIRED

  • Someone who is flexible, this is very important
  • You may be taking me swimming on a weekly basis.
  • I enjoy being around people with a bubbly sense of humour
  • You will need good communication skills
  • You will need good people skills as you will be working as part of a complex team
  • A person who is dependable and arrives on time
  • A person who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone else’s home
  • Someone who is outgoing, energetic
  • Someone who is confident, mature and has patience
  • Someone who can drive is a bonus
  • Experience not essential as training will be given
  • You will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement, breaking of this will be instant dismissal

 

TRAINING

The position is subjected to references and an enhanced police check. You will also be required to attend a Child Protection course and there will be training on my individual complex needs. You will also receive instruction from my parents separately.

 

 

ABOUT THE JOB

Although this is a part time job you will have to submit a National Insurance Number. Hours will be reported on time sheets and the wages will be paid monthly. You will receive appropriate holidays with pay. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.
