1.  Purpose

To provide an occupational therapy service by assessing, implementing (by self or colleagues)
and evaluating programmes of person-centred care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

2. Key Relationships

  • This role carries no line management responsibilities, but the post holder will have a
    responsibility to mentor and supervise more junior members of the team
  • The post holder will be expected to work effectively with the Therapy team, the
    nursing teams and the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Responsible for working alongside and/or supporting volunteers, assistants, and
    students within their team

3. Qualifications required

  • Diploma / BSC (Hons) in Occupational Therapy
  • Current and valid Registration with Health & Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development

4. Experience, Skills and Ability

  • Knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions using clinical
    reasoning
  • An ability to work autonomously and to set own and support others’ priorities
  • An ability to confidently assess and manage risk in relation to occupational
    performance
  • An ability to organise, co-ordinate and respond efficiently to complex information
  • Desirable experience of working in a relevant setting, which can include practice
    placements

5. Complexity and Accountability

  • This post holds no budgetary responsibility but will be expected to help control and minimise expenditure and costs where appropriate.
  • Accountable to ensure a duty of candour is followed in giving information to service
    users and/or their representative

6. Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assessment of service user needs and to develop an appropriate
    person centred treatment programme to meet individual needs.
  • To promote choice in all aspects of clinical practice reviewing and making suggestions
    to enhance the service user experience and enabling concerns and complaints to be
    raised freely by service users and their representatives
  • To liaise and communicate with other health and social care professionals and
    volunteers in the planning and delivery of occupational therapy
  • To ensure appropriate provision and maintenance of equipment within available
    resources
