Job Title:                     Support Worker  

 

Responsible to:          Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer and the employer’s representative

 

Hours:                          Flexible hours. Mainly School Holidays & Weekends

 

Hourly Rate of Pay:     £12.71 per hour

 

Based at:                      Employer’s own home in Haverhill, Suffolk and out in the local community.

 

Job Purpose

 

Caring for a nonverbal, profoundly autistic, male teenager with severe learning difficulties and epilepsy, during some weekends and school holidays, based from his home in Haverhill Suffolk, spending time out in and around in the local community and other places. The candidate must be a driver. Be flexible in the hours and times that you can work, and be honest and reliable.

 

Main duties

 

  • Personal care & possibly changing nappies / toileting if needed.
  • Constant close supervision is required at all times.
  • Taking him out locally such as swimming, trampoline parks etc.
  • Support with all safety aspects.
  • Assisting with medication if needed
  • To support with feeding and drinking
  • Keeping him entertained, interested and happy at all times.
  • To build a friendly and trustworthy professional relationship with the child.
  • The boy does have epilepsy so you must follow his care plan.
  • The child is nonverbal and communicates partly through a talk pad.
  • To build a supportive, friendly relationship and take part in and encourage activities which he enjoys. To support with sensory play.
  • At all times be patient, supportive and respectful of his dignity
  • To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.

  • Flexible in the hours and times that you can work.
  • Be patient and supportive.
  • Be friendly and outgoing.
  • Be honest, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Experience with caring for children with epilepsy and autism and learning difficulties is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • A willingness to undergo any training highlighted by the employer.
  • You should have good knowledge and understanding of risks.

The offer will be made subject to satisfactory references.

 

The post carries a 3 month probationary period.
