HGV Technician

Stockport Truck Centre is a long-established, family-run commercial vehicle specialist with over 25 years’ experience supporting HGV fleets across the North West. Due to continued growth, we are now looking to recruit an experienced HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic to join our Hyde depot. This is a permanent, workshop-based role offering long-term job security, strong earning potential, and a supportive team environment.
The Role – HGV Technician
As an HGV Technician, you will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repair of HGVs and trailers, working with modern equipment in a clean, well-organised workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGV trucks and trailers
- MOT preparation, inspections and fault diagnostics
- Accurate completion of job cards and workshop documentation
- Ensuring all work is carried out to high safety and quality standards
- Supporting, mentoring and coaching junior technicians or apprentices
- Working collaboratively as part of a professional workshop team
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / Commercial Vehicle Technician
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or time-served equivalent)
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills on commercial vehicles
- Experience working on HGVs, LGVs, trucks or trailers
- Full UK driving licence (HGV Class 1 desirable but not essential)
- Own tools required
Working Hours & Overtime
- Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 6:00pm
- Alternate Saturdays: 7:00am – 12:00pm (as required)
- Overtime paid at 1.5x after 47.5 hours
Salary & Benefits
- Up to £54,340 per year + overtime (based on £22 per hour)
