About the Role
We are looking for a kind, reliable and experienced Personal Assistant (Carer) to support a 72-year-old lady living with Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
She is mainly bed-bound but transfers to her wheelchair for a few hours a few times each week. Care includes PEG feeding, administering medication via PEG, and support with personal care. The lady also has a urostomy bag.
You will be joining a small, friendly team of Personal Assistants — some of whom have been supporting her for about seven years — and working closely with her 74-year-old husband, who is actively involved in her day-to-day care.
About the Household
This is a very friendly, welcoming home. The house is fully equipped for care, with a ground-floor bedroom, ceiling hoist, wet room, and all necessary equipment to provide a safe, comfortable environment. The home also has a large garden, which is lovely to enjoy during the warmer months.
The lady enjoys listening to music, watching TV and films, and appreciates a bit of pampering — such as having her nails done, applying moisturiser, hand massages, etc. She has a great sense of humour, and while not especially verbal, she clearly expresses her likes, dislikes, amusement and kindness.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dignified, person-centred personal care and support.
- Administer PEG foods and medications via PEG, following the care plan.
- Assist with washing, dressing, and toileting, including management of urostomy care.
- Support safe transfers between bed and wheelchair using ceiling hoist equipment.
- Monitor comfort and wellbeing, reporting any concerns promptly.
- Engage in friendly, stimulating companionship — sharing music, films, or light-hearted conversation.
- Carry out light domestic tasks related to care (e.g. keeping bedroom clean and tidy).
- Work collaboratively with the client’s husband and other PAs as part of a supportive team.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a caring or personal assistant role.
- Experience with PEG feeding and administering medication via PEG (preferable, however training will be provided).
- Confidence in using ceiling hoists and supporting mobility.
- Understanding of urostomy care (training can be provided if needed).
- Friendly, patient and compassionate personality with a good sense of humour.
- Able to work independently and follow care routines.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
- Right to work in the UK.
Additional Information
- Training or shadowing with existing PAs can be provided.
- Flexible working pattern can be discussed.
- This role is funded by a Personal Health Budget (PHB) via NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC).
