Job Title:                     Carer

 

Responsible to:          Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer and the employer’s representative (Mum & Dad)

 

Hours:                          20 hours per week

 

Work Pattern:              Variable shifts, including weekends and afternoons / evenings (after school)

                                     

Hourly Rate of Pay:    £12 per hour

 

Based at:                     Employer’s own home in Long Melford, Suffolk and out in the local community.

 

Job Purpose

 

To support and care for a little girl (4 years old) who has a rare genetic condition, global development delay and associated communication, mobility, and has a gastronomy tube. She is a sweet, gentle soul who is subtle in her communication. She enjoys sensory play, being outdoors and being with her family. The family are looking to recruit a carer to support the little girl with all her needs and to help Mum and Dad have some respite.

 

Main duties:

 

To support with:  

  • Personal care (washing, dressing, changing nappies, moving and handling etc)
  • Assisting medication via PEG
  • Aid communication through choices and knowledge of the young child
  • Constant supervision always
  • To be a social friendly companion to the child
  • The child has a blended diet via gastronomy tube. Support with PEG feeding.
  • Support the child on walks out. She has a wheelchair, special buggy, and a mobility chair.
  • Encourage sensory activites and experiences / play.
  • Organise and maintain the child’s space / area.
  • To support with physio care – use of equipment in home
  • To report any issues to the child’s parents
  • To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.

 

Personal Specification

 

  • Have experience of working with SEN complex children
  • Flexible in the hours and times that you can work.
  • Have a good sense of humour and enjoy a friendly joke.
  • You should have a thorough understanding of personal safety.
  • A willingness to undergo any training highlighted by the employer.
  • Have an awareness and knowledge of equal opportunities.

This post is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check at the Employers request prior to commencing employment. This is confidential and at no cost to yourself.

 

The post carries a 6 month’s probationary period.
