Support Worker, Required in Cambridge, CB2

£11.25 per hour

  About me:

I am a 7-year-old boy, I have autism and I live with my family in Cambridge CB2. I am a massive fan of puzzles, maths, science and music. I'm really into Pokémon, Minecraft and Sonic at the moment. I'm always on the move and really like football. I can't speak really well, although I'll try my best. Nevertheless, I do need help to play along with my friends since my social communication skills are not quite there yet. I would like the opportunity to access and engage with my local community without relying on my family members. There are a number of local social groups which I would like to try with support. I like being active and it’s important for me to have continuity of regular and reliable support workers.

Hours and Rate of Pay :

Ideally I am looking for support during weekends and school holidays and this can be flexible and agreed and discussed in advance. Rate of pay: £11.25 per hour The post will include 5.6 weeks paid annual leave (pro-rata) Enhanced DBS check will be required.

  What you would be doing:

To have some regular time away from the family home that will enable me to increase my confidence and skill in accessing the community without family members. To increase my life skills, in particular engaging with my peers in the local community. Support me to increase my confidence in interacting with my friends without the need of my family around. Support to access and increase my confidence and skill in using public parks.

 The person I would like:

Someone who has experience in supporting young people with Autism, either in a formal setting, in the community or from personal experiences. You should have experience of supporting people with anxiety, as my anxiety can lead to me to struggle to communicate my frustration and feelings of being overwhelmed in situations. It is important that you have a good understanding and experience in Autism and be able to de-escalate any situations that may arise. You should enjoy being active and have the skills to give me support with building my confidence & self-esteem & promoting my independence. You should have a genuine interest in the provision of high-quality care, be able to work flexible hours and be a good communicator and also possess the motivation to develop trust and understanding within the role.
