 Personal Care Assistant needed for an elderly lady in Camden area (preferably portguese speaking)

Reporting to daughter: Antoneita 

Client has Alzheimers and is cared for by her daughter Antoneita whom you will liase with

Rota: WEEKENDS 12 hours

Rate of pay: £13.00ph

Saturdays for 7 hours (11.30  to 5.30pm)

Duties:  

 

  • Engage with client in a way to stimulate her social awareness. Talk, ask questions about her life encourage her to name the people in the photos around the room ( She will be confused sometimes but it is very likely that she will understand the questions being made in English but she will answer in Portuguese.  It is important that the carer doesn't feel discouraged but continues to be imaginative and engage).

 

  •   Give client the medication in time with her meals (carer might be required to do some occasional grocery shopping) and ensure that she has in fact taken the medication prescribed.

 

  •  Reassure her before the end of her shift that I will be returning home soon (I usually call her on the land line to tell her myself and this helps her to settle and be reassured that she will not be alone for long).

 

 Sundays for 5 hours (2.30pm  to 6.30pm)

 Duties:

  • Administering the evening meditation with a small snack about 4.00pm.

 

  • Take her to church (Also in Camden Town about 10 minutes walk from the house) using the wheelchair (service starts at 5pm.  She finds it very important to be there before the service starts). It is recommended to leave the house at about 4.45 the latest.

 

  • Return her home once the church service has ended.

Requirements

Preferably Portuguese speaking

Experience with the elderly and care experience

Friendly. patient and willing to make an effort to support.
